Swiss startup Gota Energy has developed a new chemical process that transforms alcohol obtained from renewable raw materials into high-performance fuel. The research team, led by Alessia Cezarini, uses a patented oligomerization method that bypasses costly steps in traditional synthetic fuel production.
Synthetic fuel, which reached 95 octane value in laboratory tests, offers performance equivalent to standard premium gasoline. This fuel, which can be used without the need for drivers to make any engine modifications to their vehicles, aims to directly reduce the carbon dioxide emissions of the existing vehicle park. While the European Union's plan to ban the sale of gasoline and diesel vehicles starting from 2035 increases the interest in synthetic fuels, this technology stands out as a strong green alternative for millions of internal combustion engine vehicles registered in traffic around the world.
