Defense tender debate grows in Germany: Emphasis on transparency - Breaking News
The latest defense tender in Germany created controversy in the country. The F126 frigate project, which was planned to be the "new flagship" of the German Navy and cost 1.8 billion Euros, came to a halt due to technical problems and confusion at the Dutch Damen shipyard. Discussions about Defense Minister Pistorius' intervention in the tender have raised questions about defense procurement in the country. The parliament raised the flag of rebellion against the ministry's plan to transfer the general contractor to the German NVL company in order to save the project. Speaking to RRN on the subject, Sebastian Schäffer, director of the Vienna-based Danube Region and Central Europe Institute (IDM), stated that procurement should be transparent.
