Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that the system established in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) within the scope of the Eastern Mediterranean Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) Project will be put into service on July 20, and that ship traffic will be effectively monitored in maritime jurisdiction areas.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made a written statement regarding the VTH Project. Minister Uraloğlu stated that final preparations are continuing for the commissioning of the Eastern Mediterranean Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) Project, whose installation has been completed in TRNC. Emphasizing that the project will be put into service on July 20, Uraloğlu said, "We have completed the construction activities, hardware installations and software integration processes in the project. By putting the system into service on July 20, we will start to effectively monitor ship traffic in the maritime jurisdictions of the TRNC."

"We will be able to monitor ship traffic uninterruptedly in the sea area between the TRNC surrounding seas and our country."

Stating that Türkiye's effectiveness in the Eastern Mediterranean will be further strengthened with the Eastern Mediterranean VTS Project, Uraloğlu said, "With the project, we will protect our interests in our blue homeland and will be able to monitor ship traffic in the sea area between the TRNC surrounding seas and our country uninterruptedly. Thanks to the software and critical hardware we have developed entirely with domestic and national resources, we will also reinforce our technological independence in this field."

"We have completed our traffic monitoring stations in Karpaz, Sadrazamköy and Çayırova"

Stating that the project was carried out by the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs and the contractor was HAVELSAN, Uraloğlu said, "We have completed our traffic surveillance stations in Karpaz, Sadrazamköy and Çayırova. We have integrated the Automatic Identification System (OTS) data in Selvitepe with the OTS and radar data in Kantara. We have also carried out remote backup and console installations in our Mersin Ship Traffic Services Center. We have completed all the preparation processes and put the system into service on July 20. "We are taking it," he said.

Information will be transferred to VTS centers instantly

Stating that traffic surveillance stations are among the main components of the system, Uraloğlu said, "We will carry out 24-hour uninterrupted monitoring thanks to radars, cameras, communication equipment, OTS systems and other sensors. Any ship within the scope of ship traffic services will be detected instantly and the data obtained will be transferred simultaneously to both the center in TRNC and the Mersin Ship Traffic Services Center. Our radars, which are the most important element in our traffic surveillance stations, are SERDAR 7M radars produced by ASELSAN with domestic and national facilities." he said.

It will contribute to the monitoring of illegal activities and maritime safety.

Providing information about the benefits of the system, Uraloğlu said, "Thanks to this system, we will carry out many operations such as ship identification, uninterrupted monitoring and regulation of ship traffic, transmitting navigational information and general warnings to ships, controlling special areas, contributing to the monitoring of illegal activities, issuing danger warnings, informing relevant institutions in emergency situations such as traffic incidents and flames, and sharing meteorological data with ships when necessary." - ANKARA
