The search for Erkan Sak (28), who disappeared after being swept away by the current in the Habur-2 Stream in ŞIRNAK's Beytüşşebap district, has been going on for a week. As part of the work, the teams entered 21 kilometers into Iraqi territory with special permission and carried out drone-supported scanning.
The incident took place on the evening of July 9, in the Komato location of Taşarası village in Beytüşşebap district. Erkan Sak, who entered the Habur-2 Stream to fish, got lost in the current. Upon notice, AFAD, gendarmerie, Gendarmerie Search and Rescue (JAK), UMKE and other search and rescue teams were dispatched to the region. While Şırnak AFAD's vehicles, personnel, search and rescue boat, surface and underwater drones took part in the work, Cizre Municipality Fire Department divers, Bitlis Police Department Underwater Group Chief and Diyarbakır Provincial Gendarmerie Command Underwater Search and Rescue Team also supported the teams.
During the searches, giant rock blocks under water were broken with two excavators brought to the area upon the request of the family. During the activities carried out against the possibility of getting stuck, a scattering net belonging to Sak was found yesterday, but no other trace was found. Activities carried out by boats in the stream, which flows at a speed of approximately 16 kilometers per second and reaches a depth of 10 meters in places, were continued with difficulty due to the strong current. After the nets stretched by the current broke, a set was established near the Habur-2 Bridge with reinforced steel wires provided from Şenoba Brigade Command.
In line with the request of the village people and the special permission received by the Şırnak Governorship from the military units, the teams crossed Habur-2 and entered 21 kilometers into Iraqi territory. While the water surface, wooded and rocky areas were scanned with drones, AFAD and gendarmerie unmanned aerial vehicles conducted aerial searches along the river bed. 30 security guards from Uludere District Gendarmerie Command also participated in land search activities on the river bank. Search activities have been continuing non-stop for 7 days.
