Edirne Governor Yunus Sezer met with the families of martyrs and veterans within the scope of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day.
The program, held at a facility in the city, started with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Yusuf Serenli, Imam of Selimiye Mosque.
In his speech here, Sezer said that throughout history, the beloved nation has paid great prices for its future and independence.
Stating that one of the toughest tests of these prices and this unshakable will took place on the night of July 15, Sezer said, "That night was the night when our nation faced one of the heaviest betrayals in history. The traitors, who used the resources of our state against our state and nation, ignored the national will and targeted our independence, democracy and future." he said.
Sezer stated that the nation filled the squares with the call of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Explaining that the nation fulfilled all its responsibilities that night, Sezer said:
"While calling the nation, our President said, 'I do not know a greater will and power than the will of the nation.' Indeed, our nation resisted tanks, planes and weapons with its faith, courage and love of the country. Millions of our citizens, women, men and young people, protected this beautiful country for the sake of its future."
İYİ Party Edirne Deputy Mehmet Akalın also stated that he defended the will and sovereignty of the Turkish nation on July 15.
Stating that the Turkish nation exists to keep the flag waving in these lands and the call to prayer to continue, Akalın said, "Unfortunately, this nation gathered its state from the streets on July 15, in a matter that we should take as an example. This is a point that requires us to learn from history. It is one of the most important examples of the nation-state relationship. It is an indication that there can be no state without the Turkish nation." he said.
Edirne Deputy Mayor Cenk Ergüden stated that the Turkish nation has made great sacrifices for their freedom and independence in these lands throughout history.
Stating that the nation stands shoulder to shoulder when it comes to the homeland, Ergüden stated that he remembers all martyrs, veterans and heroes with respect.
Family and Social Services Provincial Director Harun Tohumcu noted that a treacherous coup attempt was made on July 15, targeting democracy and national will.
Food was served to those who attended the program.
The program ended after Edirne Provincial Mufti Burhan Çakır prayed.
The program was attended by 9th Border Brigade Commander Brigadier General Bülent Barış Sarp, Trakya University Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Hatipler, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Edirne Representative Ambassador Murat Ahmet Yörük, Deputy Governor Güher Sinem Büyüknalçacı, Deputy Governor and Secretary General of the Special Provincial Administration Eyyüp Batuhan Ciğerci, Provincial Police Chief Muhittin Ayhan, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Colonel Mehmet Kasım Ermiş, institution managers, AK Party Edirne Provincial Chairman Belgin İba attended.
