It was decided to pay a total of 200 thousand lira of non-pecuniary damages to the couple who filed a lawsuit against the wedding hall in Izmir because the video recording of their wedding could not be found.
The couple Feride and Şeref Derin, who live in Bayraklı district, made an agreement with the wedding hall business to record video for the wedding ceremony held in Karabağlar district on December 27, 2023.
The couple, who wanted to receive the footage from the hall operators after the wedding, was told that there was no video recording.
After the mediation meetings failed to yield any results, the couple filed a lawsuit at the Izmir 4th Consumer Court on May 16, 2024, through lawyer Ebru Bilgen, seeking non-pecuniary damages.
The court, which decided the case on April 28, ruled that the Derin couple suffered non-pecuniary damage and decided to pay the business a total of 200 thousand liras of non-pecuniary damages, 100 thousand liras per person.
Lawyer Bilgen stated to journalists that wedding hall operators stated that the camera shooting service belongs to them, and that outsourcing this service is not allowed.
Bilgen explained that during the trial, it was suggested that the fixed images taken from the security camera of the wedding hall be presented instead of the wedding video by adding sound, but this was not accepted by their clients, and said, "Our clients are very upset. They say, 'I wish we had wedding videos instead of this compensation.' They still have not gotten over the shock of the incident. In fact, I know that the clients have such a trauma, when they go to a relative's wedding, they wonder 'Is this camera recording or not?' "They feel the need to check it themselves." he said.
