Governor Varol stated that on the night of July 15, 2016, with the call of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the nation defended its democracy, legal order and national will as one heart, and said that the citizens who shielded their chests against tanks and barrels on that dark night showed the whole world that no power can enslave the national will. Noting that this year marks the 10th anniversary of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day, Varol said, "We celebrate the 10th anniversary of the elimination of the treacherous coup attempt by the FETO terrorist organization against the survival of our state, the future of our country and the national will, with the unshakable will of our beloved nation; it is a great pride and honor as an independence epic engraved in golden letters in our glorious history." We realize once again with a deep consciousness that on the night of July 15, 2016, our nation, which filled the squares with our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, stood together with its courage, belief and sacrifice, and defended its democracy, legal order and national will at the expense of its lives. Our noble nation, who shielded itself against tanks and barrels on that dark night, told the whole world that no power could enslave the national will. "This year, as we commemorate the 10th anniversary of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day, this epic struggle written by our nation has a special meaning and importance in terms of consolidating its place in our social memory, keeping the consciousness of national unity and solidarity alive, and transferring this historical heritage to future generations," he said.
Emphasizing that the resistance of the nation on July 15 was one of the strongest manifestations of the spirit of independence carried throughout history, Governor Varol stated that the stance taken with the state-nation integration is one of the most important guarantees that the Republic of Turkey will survive forever. Stating that the spirit of unity and solidarity should always be kept alive, the legacy of the martyrs should be protected and the sacrifices of the veterans should not be forgotten, Varol thanked the people of Aydın for their determined stance during the democracy watches. Varol said, "This unique resistance that our nation put forward ten years ago is one of the strongest manifestations of the spirit of independence it has carried throughout history and the will to unite around common values. The same heroic spirit, which does not hesitate to sacrifice its life for the sake of its homeland, as in Çanakkale and the War of Independence, was manifested again on the night of July 15.
