As part of the 10th anniversary of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), the movie "Last Time" met with the audience at Yunus Emre Institute.

As part of the 10th anniversary of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day in TRNC, the movie "Last Sefer" was screened at Yunus Emre Institute. The program, which was held under the auspices of the Turkish Embassy in Nicosia, was organized in cooperation with the Communications Consultancy of the Turkish Embassy in Nicosia, Turkish Maarif Foundation TRNC Representation and Yunus Emre Institute. The family and children of Murat İnci, who was martyred in Ankara during the July 15 coup attempt, also attended the event.

Speaking before the film screening, Türkiye's Ambassador to Nicosia Ali Murat Başçeri stated that 10 years have passed since July 15 and that this date is one of the turning points for the Republic of Turkey. Stating that July 15 is a historical struggle that should not be forgotten, Başçeri said, "It has been exactly 10 years since the treacherous coup attempt of July 15. Our hearts have been aching every July 15 since 2016. But we understand better day by day, with each passing moment, how meaningful and valuable the struggle of our nation is. We understand the attack on our republic, our democracy, our national will on July 15, with the presence of our martyrs who saw death and walked to their death, within our state." "With the presence of patriots and the leadership of our President, our people eliminated various scenarios envisioned for the Republic of Türkiye and threw them into the dustbin of history," he said.

Pointing out that July 15 has a different meaning this year, Başçeri said, "We hold this commemoration every July 15, but this year July 15 is more meaningful because it is the 10th year. In this 10th year, we want to rethink, examine and evaluate what July 15 means with various activities and events in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus."

Commemoration programs will be held throughout the week.

Providing information about the events to be held in TRNC, Başçeri stated that a commemoration ceremony will be held at the Bosphorus Martyrs' Cemetery this year, as in previous years, and said, "Every year, we commemorated our martyrs at the Bosphorus Martyrs' Cemetery together with the authorities of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. This year we will do the same again. There will be various film screenings. This year there will be many film screenings. There are events organized by our institutions in the Republic of Turkey. On the evening of July 14, Yunus Emre Institute organized "We are together at the movie screening," he said.

Reminding that the daughters of martyr Murat İnci participated in the commemoration programs under the coordination of TİKA, Başçeri said, "The International Democratic Union held a commemoration program in the Nicosia National Garden on Sunday, July 12. Tomorrow, at the joint event of our Embassy and Communications Consultancy, a panel will be held in the Republic Assembly with the participation of academics, where the meaning of July 15 will be evaluated."

Referring to the program to be held in Selimiye Square, Başçeri said, "In the evening, there will be a recitation of the Holy Quran and a prayer for our martyrs in Selimiye Square. Then, we will watch the movie screening about what kind of night July 15 was. The President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, the President of the Assembly of the Republic and the Prime Minister will also be with us."

Giving a message of unity and solidarity at the end of his speech, Başçeri said, "May God never let us experience such painful days again. How happy we are that the heroic sons of our nation threw the scenario prepared for the Republic of Turkey into the dustbin of history that day. How happy we are that Turkey is taking firm steps towards the future in the Turkish Century and no one will be able to stop it." - NICOSIA
