YAOUNDE, July 15 (Xinhua) -- More than 7 million children in Chad have been vaccinated against polio in the largest health campaign ever.
In his statement on Tuesday, Abdoulaye Annour, Director of Vaccination, Disease Control and Epidemiological Surveillance, stated that the initial target of six million children in the campaign was exceeded and a 110 percent success rate was achieved.
Noting that more than 99 percent of the households in the country accepted the vaccination teams, Annour stated that more than 90 percent of those who refused the vaccine were convinced thanks to the information activities carried out. Annour emphasized that refugees, displaced persons and other vulnerable groups were also included in the scope of the campaign.
The World Health Organization declared Chad a polio-free country in 2016. However, type 2 polio virus cases started to appear again in the country.
