The search for Erkan Sak (28), who got swept away by the current in the Habur-2 Stream where he entered to fish in ŞIRNAK's Beytüşşebap district, continues on the 6th day. While giant rocks in the river bed in the region were broken with work machines, searches were also shifted across the border.
The incident took place on the evening of July 9, in the Komato location of Taşarası village in Beytüşşebap district. Erkan Sak, who entered the Habur-2 Stream to fish, got lost in the current. Upon notice, AFAD, gendarmerie, Gendarmerie Search and Rescue (JAK), UMKE and other search and rescue teams were dispatched to the region. Vehicles, personnel, search and rescue boat, surface drone and underwater drone of Şırnak AFAD are involved in the work. In addition, divers from Cizre Municipality Fire Brigade, Police Department Underwater Group Headquarters diver team from Tatvan district of Bitlis and Diyarbakır Provincial Gendarmerie Command Underwater Search and Rescue Team also support the activities.
During the searches, giant rock blocks under water were broken with 2 excavators brought to the area at the request of the family. During the activity carried out against the possibility of getting stuck, a scattering net belonging to Sak was found, but no other trace was found. Searches with boats in the stream, which flows at a speed of approximately 16 kilometers per second and whose depth reaches 10 meters in places, are carried out with difficulty due to the danger of tipping over and high risk. When the stretched nets broke due to the current, precautions were taken by establishing a dam near the Habur 2 Bridge with reinforced steel wires provided by the Şenoba Brigade Command.
In line with the request of the village people and the special permission received by the Şırnak Governorship from the military units, an expert team of 15 people passed Habur 2 and carried out a search with coastal and underwater cameras outside the country's borders. While AFAD and Gendarmerie's unmanned aerial vehicles were scanning the river bed from the air, 30 security guards from the Uludere District Gendarmerie Command also carried out a land search along the river bank. The work continues on the 6th day.
