Within the scope of the investigation carried out by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the Friends Association, the procedures of 25 suspects, including the president of the association, Haluk Levent, were completed at the Financial Crimes Department of the Istanbul Police Department.

Haluk Levent, Ece Güner, İlker Çetin, Nurdan Eriş, Yusuf Can Ertit, Kemal Ötünç, Şehmuz Baştuğ, Abdülcevat Özkan, Emrah Gödeliner, Erhan Dökmeci, Halil Bostancı, Mehmet Ulu, Yeliz Kaya and Zafer Yay, among the suspects who were referred to the courthouse after the procedures at the police station, were arrested and sent to prison by the Criminal Court of Peace where they were brought.

While the repercussions of the incident continued, Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek also made an assessment on the issue. In his statement, Minister Gürlek said, "This investigation shows that our state resolutely protects the good will and trust of our citizens. Of course, our transparent non-governmental organizations in the areas needed in disasters are our greatest wealth. We have supported every initiative that increases goodness, but civil society cannot be a shield to escape legal control. Transparency by non-governmental organizations is a legal obligation. Every penny collected as a donation must be accounted for where and for what purpose it is used. No one can exploit the situation of cooperation."

"Everyone is equal before the law. The scales of justice do not weigh according to position, wealth, title or political identity." Gürlek said, "Only human rights are based on law, evidence and conscience. Our main goal is to further a system in which citizens have confidence in justice." he said.

Stating that the judiciary is the backbone of the legal basis, Minister Gürlek said, "Of course, judicial decisions can be discussed and criticized in democratic societies. However, criticism and targeting our judges and prosecutors are completely different things. We will not allow any approach that aims to undermine social trust in justice, cast a shadow on the impartiality of the judiciary and put pressure on our judges and prosecutors to yield results." he said.
