Approximately 40 athletes took to the mat in the junior wrestling promotion competitions held in Edirne on the occasion of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day.
The organization in the 8-year-old category, held at the Cumhuriyet Sports Hall by the Turkish Wrestling Federation Edirne Provincial Representation, started with the opening ceremony. In the program, Quran recitation, hymn recital, Kırkpınar drum and flute team and mehter show were presented.
In his speech at the event, Turkish Wrestling Federation Edirne Provincial Representative Şamil Doğu Delen stated that they aimed to convey the spiritual atmosphere of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day to children.
Expressing that wrestling is a sport that represents manliness, bravery and love of the country, Delen said, "We wanted to convey the high spirit of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day to our children, and bring together the sport of wrestling, which has manliness, bravery and love of the country at its core, with the same heroic spirit, on the same day. Our goal is not only to raise successful athletes, but also to raise young people who are loyal to their homeland and flag, who research, question, believe in democracy and protect their spiritual values." he said.
Approximately 40 athletes in the 8-year-old category competed in the matches. The organization ended with the awards of the winning athletes.
