Fatih Erbakan, Chairman of the Re-Welfare Party, held a press conference in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. Erbakan started his speech by commemorating those who lost their lives in the July 15 coup attempt.
Stating that the coup attempt was preventable and that there were serious negligences of the government in the process, Erbakan stated that FETO gained power within the state as a result of political choices spanning many years.
"July 15 is not an event that occurred overnight. This has a history of 15-20 years. Unfortunately, for years, the current government handed over state staff to certain structures with daily political calculations. Afterwards, it tried to escape responsibility by saying 'we were deceived', but it is not possible for those who govern the state to escape responsibility after making such big mistakes by saying 'we were deceived'. All the mistakes actually started after you took off the National Vision shirt. FETO's infiltration into the state, its structuring, alliance "This was done by taking off the National Vision shirt. Unfortunately, the container from which the National Vision emerged was filled with FETO, and what happened is a result of this. If the warnings made by the National Vision for years had been taken into account, that dark night might not have happened."
Claiming that the fight against FETO is limited only to the lower levels of the organization, Erbakan said, "For a real reckoning, the treason layer at the top of the pyramid must be tried. However, the principle of justice should never be abandoned in this process."
Erbakan also explained why he could not hold back his tears at the funeral ceremony of Iran's former religious leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed in the US attack, held two weeks ago.
"The late Khamenei's 15-month-old grandchild was torn apart by missiles. There was a tiny coffin of him and a photo of him laughing and playing was at the top of the coffin. It is impossible not to get emotional under these conditions."
