A commemoration program was organized by ESENLER Municipality on the occasion of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day. Within the scope of the program, a 253-meter Turkish flag was carried in the march from the 15 July National Garden to Dörtyol Square, representing the 253 martyrs.
A commemoration program was organized by Esenler Municipality on the 10th anniversary of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day. As part of the program, a walk was held after the evening prayer. Esenler Mayor Mehmet Tevfik Göksu and many citizens attended the march, which started at the July 15 National Garden. During the march, the 253-meter Turkish flag, unfurled in memory of the 253 people martyred in the coup attempt on July 15, 2016, was carried by citizens to Dörtyol Square. Participants marched with Turkish flags and shouted slogans. After the march, Esenler Mayor Mehmet Tevfik Göksu, Esenler District Governor Süleyman Özçakıcı, AK Party Istanbul Provincial Chairman Abdullah Özdemir and hundreds of citizens attended the commemoration in Dörtyol Square.

Speaking in the program, Esenler Mayor Mehmet Tevfik Göksu said, "Esenler is one of the districts that suffered the highest number of martyrs on July 15. Today, we made a call to our brothers in Esenler. We said; let's not forget the memory of our martyrs, let's not let them be forgotten and let's protect their trust. Today, we walked with hundreds of thousands of our brothers. In fact, July 15 is an important historical rupture that re-taught and reminded us what it means to be a nation, that the place we step on is not just soil, but the homeland." At the same time, it is our common story that will always remain in our memory. When we look at it from this perspective, today, every one of our brothers, from seven to seventy, came out of their homes and from the streets to the squares to protect this important memory and the legacy of our martyrs. We say this; whoever has evil intentions about this country should know that this nation has not been a colony throughout history, and we will not send the traitors who came on July 15 to the dustbin of history. "From now on, we are always ready to send anyone who opposes this nation to the dustbin of history," he said.
ÖZDEMİR: WE WILL NOT FORGET, WE WILL NOT LET YOU FORGET
AK Party Istanbul Provincial Chairman Abdullah Özdemir said, "We carried out an intense July 15 program in Istanbul. We started the morning at the Edirnekapı Martyrs' Cemetery. Afterwards, we had a walk on the July 15 Martyrs' Bridge. Then we participated in commemoration programs, visited our martyrs' families and participated in the program of our Governorship. All day long, we see that July 15 is not forgotten in many parts of Istanbul and is remembered even more strongly by our nation. Now in Esenler We came to the square. Tens of thousands of our citizens showed once again in this square that they will never forget July 15 and will not let it be forgotten. As Aliya Izetbegovic said, 'Forgotten genocides will be repeated.' That's why every forgotten evil has the characteristic of being repeated. We will not forget, we will not let you forget. We will remember July 15. "Hopefully, we will continue this journey by being alert, strong and resistant against all kinds of structures that threaten the future of this nation in different guises, so that July 15 does not happen again," he said.
