Commemorative events were held in Iğdır on the 10th anniversary of the coup attempt of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) on July 15, 2016.
As in all of Türkiye, a commemoration program was organized in Iğdır on the occasion of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day. Citizens showed great interest in the program held on Iğdır Governor Road. The program started with a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem, and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's speech was followed on a giant screen. After the recitation of the Holy Quran, prayers were made for the martyrs of July 15 and all martyrs and veterans.
Speaking in the program, Iğdır Governor M. Fırat Taşolar stated that July 15 was a historical turning point in which the Turkish nation stood up for democracy and national will, and stated that the determined stance of the nation against the coup attempt remains in the memories and said, "My elders will know much better than me; we have seen many coups in this country. Each of them caused this country to lose decades. The young people of this country, even the prime ministers and ministers, perished on the death row. They made brothers beat brothers on the streets." Do you know why we are happy today, why we are proud today? For the first time, on July 15, the nation is celebrating its victory against the coup plotters. We lost martyrs, but we saved our country. We got rid of the "buts" that were above the national will. There were people who were waiting for a coup once a year, now we have gotten rid of this obsession. On July 15, this nation gave such a harsh response that from now on, they will be afraid not to attempt, but even to dream... I would like to thank you, especially for the night of July 15, 2016. You did not say "What do I care?" You did not say "We are at the very edge of Türkiye, let them handle it in Ankara." "You fulfilled the obligation of being a citizen. You protected your country, you stood in front of the tanks and weapons, you did not surrender Iğdır to the coup plotters."
As part of the commemoration program, sela was recited in all mosques in Iğdır at 00.13 at night. - IĞDIR
