The first okra harvest of the season has started in Adana's Kozan district. Okra is sold in the field at a price of 150 TL per kilogram.
Okra was grown as an alternative crop among the citrus gardens in Kozan's Konakkuran District. Producer Ahmet Yeğenoğlu, who grows okra, which is difficult to work with, said that he limited the cultivation area to 2 decares due to the difficulty in finding workers.
"Alternative agricultural products also need to be disseminated"
Stating that the harvest starts at the first light of the morning, Yeğenoğlu said, "We harvest approximately 10 kilograms of okra daily in a 2-decare area. Our harvest will continue until the autumn months. This year, the price per kilogram in the field is 150 TL. While small okra is more preferred in our region, there is more demand for large okra as it is believed to be good for joint and rheumatism disorders in Mersin and its surroundings.
