KUWAIT, July 16 (Xinhua) -- The Kuwaiti army announced that 32 enemy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that entered the country's airspace since dawn were neutralized by air defense systems, accusing Iran of targeting critical facilities in the country.
The General Staff of the Kuwait Armed Forces announced on Thursday via social media platform X that the unmanned aerial vehicles targeting a number of Kuwait's critical facilities had been neutralized, describing the attack as "Iranian aggression."
The statement noted that the wreckage of the downed UAVs caused material damage in some residential areas, but no casualties were reported. Details regarding the targeted locations or the extent of the damage were not disclosed.
As tensions in the region escalated with recent US attacks on Iran, the Washington administration had stated that these operations aimed to "reduce Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz."
In response to the attacks, Iran had launched missile and UAV strikes, targeting US bases and facilities in numerous Gulf countries.
