A commemoration program for the martyrs was held in Tripoli, the capital of Libya, on the occasion of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day.
Libyan Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tahir el-Baur, Türkiye's Ambassador to Tripoli Güven Begeç, Libya Task Group Commander Major General Mustafa Koşan, Embassy, TIKA, YEE officials and many Turkish citizens living in Tripoli attended the programme, hosted by Yunus Emre Institute (YEE) Tripoli Center, in cooperation with the Turkish Embassy in Tripoli and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) Tripoli Coordination Office.
The commemoration event started with a moment of silence for the martyrs and the reading of the national anthems of the two countries.
The Quran recitation in the program was made by Libyan Kari Siraceddin Kindi, who won the 11th International Memorization and Holy Quran Reading Competition in Türkiye and received his award from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Speaking at the commemoration program, Ambassador Begeç said that FETO's treacherous coup attempt on July 15 was prevented by the common sense of the Turkish people, the wisdom of state institutions and the leadership of President Erdoğan.
"July 15 is an important milestone in Turkish history. It is one of the most concrete and strongest signs of patriotism, democratic maturity, and the unity of state, citizen and politics." Begeç said that significant progress has been made in the fight against FETO in the last 10 years.
Stating that FETO is a threat not only to Türkiye but also to the international system and that it is essential to continue the fight against this terrorist organization, Begeç continued as follows:
"We would like to take this opportunity to thank friendly and brotherly countries such as Libya for supporting us in this struggle. In this regard, it is extremely important that our Minister Tahir al-Baur is with us today."
"We were sure that the Turkish people would protect their democracy on July 15"
Libya's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baur, stated that he followed July 15 on television screens and said, "We were confident that the Turkish people would stand by their leadership and protect their democracy and the historical depth of the country on July 15. And the Turkish people took to the streets and faced the tanks and artillery. The Turkish people showed how much they loved their country on July 15." he said.
Baur said, "Libya has always been and will be in solidarity with Türkiye within the framework of its historical relations. Just like Türkiye is in solidarity with us now." he said.
Following the program, Deputy Minister Baur and Ambassador Begeç opened the July 15 photo exhibition at YEE Tripoli Center.
Baur and Begeç examined photographs taken on July 15 in various cities of Türkiye.
