124 cyclists who worked hard in the 9th July 15 Martyrs' Commemoration Bicycle Road Race, held in Marmaris district of MUĞLA, pedaled 71 kilometers.
Under the coordination of Muğla Youth and Sports Provincial Directorate, the 9th July 15 Martyrs' Commemoration Bicycle Road Race was held in memory of the citizens and security officers who were martyred in the coup attempt on July 15, 2016. In the race that started in Muğla Cumhuriyet Square, 124 athletes from various provinces of Türkiye, between the ages of 17 and 70, pedaled in 8 categories to rank on the 71-kilometer road. The race ended in front of the old municipality on Marmaris Atatürk Street. The award ceremony for the winning athletes took place at the hotel in Marmaris, where the assassination attempt against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan took place on the night of July 15, 2016.
Marmaris District Governor Nurullah Kaya, Muğla Provincial Youth and Sports Director Kazım Açıkbaş, Marmaris District Police Chief Murat Karaman, Marmaris District Gendarmerie Commander Major Berker Dongul, Deputy District Youth and Sports Director Ayhan Tüfekçi and many athletes attended the ceremony. Marmaris District Governor Nurullah Kaya thanked all the athletes who participated in the race and said, "We have once again successfully completed our cycling races organized within the scope of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day in Marmaris. We wish days full of peace, tranquility and happiness to all of Türkiye. Let's stay in peace, let's stay in peace, let's stay in sports." Muğla Provincial Youth and Sports Director Kazım Açıkbaş said, "This is a race that symbolizes the flocking of thousands of people here after the treacherous attack on our President in this hotel. We look at this organization differently from others because of the meaning and moral value it carries, and we attach special importance to it." The award ceremony ended with the medals of the racers who received awards in eight different categories and the presentation of gold, a gift from the Marmaris Chamber of Commerce, to the winners.
