Tülay Bahçecik, married with two children, suffered a spinal cord injury after a traffic accident in the Kızılcahamam district in 2011. Confined to a wheelchair, Bahçecik discovered archery at the Turkish Armed Forces Rehabilitation Center where she was receiving treatment. For a while, Bahçecik attended training sessions using a shuttle service provided by the municipality, but long journeys prevented her from training effectively. When the shuttle service was discontinued during the pandemic, Bahçecik, lacking a vehicle, could not attend training and took a break from archery. To stay connected to sports, Bahçecik obtained a driver's license and bought a car, then met the Gazi Archery Club when she resumed training. During the same period, Bahçecik continued her education, graduating second from Ankara University's Banking and Insurance Department in 2023. In the fifth month after her return to archery, Bahçecik qualified for the national team selections, and by placing among the top four athletes in the qualifiers in Samsun in 2025, she was included in the 2028 Paralympic athlete pool. Tülay Bahçecik then won a silver medal at the Turkish Championship held in Antalya on March 9-10, 2026, becoming Turkey's second-place finisher. While achieving all this, Bahçecik also raised her two sons, who were 7 and 10 years old when she had the traffic accident, with the support of her husband, Sedat Bahçecik, a taxi driver.
