Phone repair technicians warned citizens against leaving mobile phones on charge for extended periods in extremely hot weather, and also cautioned them about counterfeit batteries.
During summer months, high air temperatures can cause mobile phone batteries to overheat, leading to various problems. One of the most common issues observed is the damage to charging integrated circuits due to this overheating. Leaving mobile phone batteries plugged in for too long after charging can shorten the device's lifespan due to swelling. Mobile phone repair technicians advised against keeping mobile phones on charge for extended hours in hot weather, and also issued warnings against counterfeit batteries.
Murat Koç, a mobile phone repair technician in Erzincan, pointed out that phones also experience overheating problems due to the excessive heating of phone batteries during hot months. Technician Koç stated that they do not recommend the use of counterfeit batteries in phones, adding:
"During summer, batteries overheat significantly, causing phones to heat up as well. This leads to battery swelling and various problems. In the summer, the most common issue in phones due to high temperatures is damage to charging integrated circuits. This is also directly related to the battery. Counterfeit batteries don't actually explode very often. However, they can swell quickly, shorten phone life, and reduce device performance. Therefore, counterfeit batteries are not highly recommended. There are some quality brands in the market that are often preferred. Regular local phone shops may not have original phone batteries for every model. Batteries for some models are only available at authorized technical services. For this reason, various quality brands available in the market are used. We recommend and use these brands, but we also specify them as 'A-grade' batteries. Even if they are quality, we clearly state that they are aftermarket products. At shops like ours, citizens can get their phones back within an hour after bringing them in for battery replacement. Since service centers don't always have parts for every model, they might give a timeframe of 1 week, 10 days, or up to 1 month within the legal period. Technical services also experience delays in some procedures, and because we are more easily accessible, people tend to prefer us more. Citizens should especially be careful not to keep their phones on charge for too long during the summer. This is because the phone heats up during charging. Therefore, the plug should be removed once the battery is full. This way, both the phone and the battery will have a longer lifespan.
