Türkiye and Egypt, which signed a military framework agreement in February, signed two documents on defense cooperation on July 13 and on defense industry cooperation on July 14.
According to Ankara, these agreements, made after the joint exercise of the air forces of the two countries in June, take the recently developed security-oriented partnership between the two powerful countries of the Eastern Mediterranean one step further.
These situations coincide with the alliance process developed between Türkiye, Egypt, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, which also includes security cooperation.
Türkiye and Egypt, which decided to normalize their relations after the tension period between 2013 and 2022, made important agreements especially in the fields of military and defense cooperation in 2026.
The defense ministers of Türkiye and Egypt, Yaşar Güler and his Egyptian counterpart Ashraf Salem Zaher, who institutionalized the cooperation in this field by signing on February 4, signed the Defense Cooperation Goodwill Letter on July 13.
At the information meeting held at the Ministry of Defense on July 16, it was stated that military cooperation has gained significant momentum as a result of recent mutual high-level visits.
"In order to strengthen the dialogue in the field of defense and security, the scope of cooperation has been expanded through mutual contacts at the level of military delegations, and concrete steps have been taken in the fields of military training, joint activities and defense industry."
In the briefing, it was reminded that the Turkish and Egyptian air forces carried out joint air exercises in June, and it was emphasized that these steps made significant contributions to the development of interoperability between the armed forces of the two countries, increasing joint operational capability and strengthening mutual experience sharing.
Ministry of Defense sources noted that the signed letter of intent shows the will of the two countries to further deepen cooperation in the field of defense and security.
Egyptian Defense Minister Lieutenant General Zahir visited Defense Industry President Haluk Görgün on July 14, as part of his Ankara contacts.
At the end of the meetings, the two officials signed another letter of intent that will determine the framework of defense industry cooperation.
In his statement on his social media account, Görgün noted that they discussed cooperation and joint capability development opportunities in the field of defense industry.
"I believe that the cooperation between Türkiye and Egypt in the field of defense industry will contribute to regional security and mutual capacity development," he said.
Defense industry cooperation between the two countries was discussed intensively, especially during President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's visit to Cairo in February, and important agreements were discussed between the Egyptian armed forces and Turkish defense industry companies.
In this context, a 350 million dollar agreement was signed between the Machinery and Chemical Industry (MKE) and the Egyptian Ministry of Defense.
Aselsan, Türkiye's largest defense industry company, also opened a representative office in Egypt at the end of 2025.
It is known that Egypt aims to diversify the source countries in terms of defense industry products and Türkiye is seen as an important cooperation in this respect. It is noted that products such as unmanned systems, armored vehicles, warships, ammunition production and electronic warfare systems were mainly on the agenda during the meetings.
It is also stated that the cooperation with Türkiye is planned as production partnership, technology transfer and development of joint projects in Egypt. It is among the media reports that Egypt wants to take part in the KAAN fighter jet project, which Türkiye is in the process of developing.
It was also noteworthy that the Egyptian Minister met with Baykar Chairman of the Board of Directors Selçuk Bayraktar and Baykar General Manager Haluk Bayraktar within the scope of his contacts. It was noted that Egypt was interested in Bayraktar unmanned aerial vehicles produced by Baykar and wanted to make an agreement to produce these vehicles in Egypt and sell them especially to the African market.
This progress in the military field between Türkiye and Egypt is also seen as important as it coincides with the alliance process that is desired to be developed between the four major countries in the region.

The agreements made with Egypt are also seen as important in terms of developing both institutional cooperation and joint operational capabilities between the armed forces of the two countries through exercises.
The fact that the two countries are major military powers on opposite shores of the Eastern Mediterranean is seen as the strengthening of a new equation in terms of regional balances.
During the period when its relations with Turkey were cold, Egypt developed military cooperation with Greece and the Republic of Cyprus in both bilateral and trilateral formats, and this was considered a negative situation for Türkiye's regional interests.
It is among the evaluations made in Ankara that the recent normalization between the two countries is reflected in the military field after areas such as economy, trade and transportation, and that it is suitable for the purpose of changing the balances in the Eastern Mediterranean.
