Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that a realistic rail system vehicle cabin simulation system, based on domestic software and hardware, will be developed for use in train driver training through the SİMURAY-KBÜ Project, which was developed by Karabük University and qualified for support by the Presidency of the Transport, Maritime and Communication Research Center (UDHAM).
Minister Uraloğlu stated that within the scope of the project, an integrated training platform will be established at Karabük University's Eskipazar Vocational School, consisting of a physical driver's cabin, in-cabin control systems, visual driving simulation software, an instructor control and monitoring interface, an artificial intelligence-supported performance evaluation module, and training scenarios.
Uraloğlu stated that thanks to SİMURAY-KBÜ, students will receive training in an environment close to real train driving, adding, "With SİMURAY-KBÜ, our prospective drivers will be able to experience real driving conditions during the training process. Speed control, braking, signal tracking, station approach, stopping precision, emergency management, and operational decision-making processes will be learned practically in a laboratory environment."
Uraloğlu stated that real-time data communication will be established between the PLC and microcontroller-based control infrastructure and the simulation software within the project, and that commands given via physical controls will be directly transferred to the simulation environment.
Uraloğlu noted that this will allow driving behaviors such as acceleration, deceleration, braking, signal tracking, and station approach to be interactively applied, and that students will undergo a training process close to real operating conditions before graduation.
Uraloğlu stated that with the artificial intelligence-supported evaluation system to be developed within the scope of the project, students' driving performances will be analyzed, making the training process more efficient and measurable.
Uraloğlu noted that the Rail System Technologies and Driving Simulation Laboratory to be established within Karabük University will offer practical training opportunities not only in driving education but also in human-machine interaction, signaling awareness, in-vehicle systems, and passenger safety, stating that the project will strengthen the education and research capacity in the field of rail systems.
Uraloğlu stated that the SİMURAY-KBÜ Project is among the 29 projects that qualified for support under the Rail System Technologies Call Program, which is carried out by UDHAM and has a total budget of 500 million Turkish Liras, adding that the program aims to develop domestic and national technologies in rail systems, increase R&D capacity, and strengthen the sector's international competitiveness. - ANKARA
