A giant Turkish flag was hung on the Martyr Mehmet Şevket Uzun Bridge, located on the Keban Dam Lake in the Ağın district of Elazığ, on the occasion of "15 July Democracy and National Unity Day".
Within the scope of the event, which was held under the instructions of Ağır District Governor Tuğçe Yılmaz, a giant Turkish flag was flown on the bridge named after Ağırlı police officer Uzun, who was martyred in Istanbul while trying to prevent the treacherous coup attempt of the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETO) by the district police chief and gendarmerie command teams.
The 520-meter-long Martyr Mehmet Şevket Uzun Bridge, which makes the road transportation between Elazığ and Ağır district uninterrupted over the Keban Dam, offers a much more economical, comfortable and safe transportation opportunity to the people of the region and road users.
By the decision of the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, the bridge in the district was named after Mehmet Şevket Uzun, a police officer in the Istanbul Police Department's Riot Force Branch, who was martyred while trying to prevent FETO's coup attempt in 2018.
In the post about the event made by the Network District Governor's Office on the social media platform of the American X company, the following statements were made:
"Our glorious Turkish flag waved proudly on the Martyr Mehmet Şevket Uzun Bridge. July 15 is the name of the epic written by our nation protecting its will. This homeland, entrusted to our dear martyrs, will survive forever with the unity and solidarity of our nation. The will is ours, the victory is ours."
July 15 martyr Mehmet Şevket Uzun was commemorated at his grave.
Ağın District Governor Yılmaz, accompanied by Mayor Şeref Çakar, visited the grave in Bahıdırlar village of police officer Mehmet Şevket Uzun, who was martyred in Istanbul during the FETO coup attempt on July 15, 2016.
In the commemoration program, the Holy Quran was read and prayers were made for the martyrs.
After the program, Yılmaz visited the martyr's mother Zeliha and father Bünyamin Uzun, who live in the village with his entourage, at their home and wished mercy to Uzun and all the martyrs.
