At the event held at Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Natural Life Park on the occasion of "July 16 World Snake Day", the importance of snakes in the ecosystem was explained to the visitors.
According to the statement made by the Metropolitan Municipality, 28 snakes belonging to 5 different species that are under protection in the park were introduced to visitors.
At the event, expert teams gave information about the biological characteristics of snakes, their lifestyles, feeding habits, defensive behaviors and their contributions to the ecosystem. Visitors also had the opportunity to ask their questions about snakes to experts.
It was stated that most of the snakes in the Natural Life Park were brought to the park after being seized during operations against illegal animal trade, and were kept under protection in habitats suitable for their species, under the supervision of veterinarians and caretakers.
At the event, it was emphasized that snakes contribute to the preservation of natural balance by keeping mouse and other rodent populations under control, and it was stated that, contrary to popular belief, they are not aggressive towards humans, they only react for defensive purposes when they feel threatened.
