Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan will visit Ukraine today.
According to information obtained from Ministry of Foreign Affairs sources, Fidan will hold contacts in Ukraine today and tomorrow.
Within the scope of Fidan's visit, it is planned to be received by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and to hold meetings with high-level officials, including Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, as well as Ukrainian Presidential Office Head Kirilo Budanov, Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rüstem Umerov, Crimean Tatars' national leader Mustafa Abdulcemil Kırımoğlu and Crimean Tatar National Assembly (KTMM) Chairman Rıfat Chubarov.
Minister Fidan is expected to exchange views during the meetings on joint steps that can be taken to further develop Turkey-Ukraine relations in every field, especially economy, energy and defense, and to deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Fidan, who will once again confirm Türkiye's support for Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity by touching on the assistance provided to Ukraine in every field and platform, is expected to draw attention to the importance of continuing diplomatic efforts to ensure a fair and lasting peace in Ukraine and express Türkiye's readiness to bring Ukraine and Russia together around the negotiation table again.
Fidan is expected to underline that the Russia-Ukraine War should not be carried to the Black Sea and emphasize the importance of reducing the increasing tension in the Black Sea and ensuring navigation safety.
In this context, Fidan is expected to underline that targeting ports, ships and fishing boats in the Black Sea is unacceptable under any circumstances, and is expected to state that Türkiye continues its diplomatic initiatives with determination to preserve the Black Sea as a basin of peace, stability and cooperation.
Fidan is expected to state that Turkish companies can make significant contributions to the reconstruction of Ukraine with their current investments and projects undertaken in Ukraine, reiterate Türkiye's position on the illegal annexation of Crimea, and draw attention to the importance of taking additional steps to strengthen the rights of the Crimean Tatars.
The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) signed between Türkiye and Ukraine on February 3, 2022 was approved by the Ukrainian Parliament yesterday, just before Minister Fidan's visit to Kiev.
It is envisaged that the law in question will come into force after it is signed by President Zelenskiy.
The agreement, which has been expected to be approved for four years, is expected to contribute to the further development of Turkey-Ukraine economic and commercial relations and to reach the 10 billion dollar trade volume target, as Turkish exporters will have similar competitive conditions with European Union exporters in the Ukrainian market.
The bilateral trade volume between Türkiye and Ukraine, which was 6.2 billion dollars in 2024, increased to 6.6 billion dollars in 2025.
Foreign Minister Fidan last visited Ukraine on 29-30 May 2025.
The last foreign minister-level visit from Ukraine to Türkiye was made on the occasion of the 36th NATO Heads of State and Government Summit held in Ankara on 7-8 July.
