The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is considering an airbag application covering 806,963 Honda Odyssey minivans from the 2011-2017 model years. The application claims that airbags can be deployed unintentionally without a collision and that this can distract the driver and cause an accident.
NHTSA has not yet opened a formal investigation and Honda has not commented on the matter. The current situation does not mean a recall. If the institution accepts the application, it will open an official investigation, otherwise it may reject it. It is stated that Honda previously solved a similar problem for the 2018-2022 Odyssey models with a software update and the investigation has been closed.
