In VAN, Nizamettin Kabaiş, the father of 21-year-old university student Rojin Kabaiş, whose lifeless body was found 18 days after she went missing in 2024, stated that they applied for a 'diatom' test to determine definitively whether his daughter drowned, and that if the test results from the forensic samples are inconclusive, her grave will be exhumed.

Rojin Kabaiş, a first-year student in the Child Development Department of Van Yüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi Faculty of Education, went missing after leaving her dormitory on September 27, 2024. Rojin Kabaiş's lifeless body was found 18 days later, on October 15, on the Mollakasım Neighborhood beach along the shore of Lake Van. In a report submitted to the file on October 10, 2025, by the Forensic Medicine Institute's Biological Specialization Department as part of the investigation, it was stated that DNA belonging to two different men was detected in Kabaiş's chest and inner vaginal area. Comprehensive DNA screening was conducted on individuals who may have come into contact with the body during its transfer from the crime scene to the Forensic Medicine Institute Van Group Presidency Morgue Specialization Department. To date, DNA samples have been taken from 413 individuals, including university and dormitory security personnel.

Rojin's father, Nizamettin Kabaiş, stated that he recently went to Van with their new lawyer, Abdurrahman Karabulut, and applied for a diatom test, saying, "A diatom test had not been done before. Our new lawyer requested this from the prosecutor. Our lawyer is focusing on issues such as cameras, a white car, and the roommate's statement. Hopefully, the case will be solved. There are many shortcomings. They hadn't done these things before. For two years, I have been struggling and suffering. They murdered my child. Our lawyer, Abdurrahman Karabulut, stayed in Van for three days. I went with him, and we met with the prosecutor's office. He obtained copies of the camera recordings – how many days Rojin stayed there, where she went from and to, who she was with. He is currently watching them at home. He also requested that a diatom test be performed. The new Minister of Justice has also made a great effort. He sent a device for the file. We learned this from the prosecutor. With that device, phone signals will be tracked. Whoever's phone signaled there that night will have their statement taken. After that, the DNA test will be examined. If phone signals are checked, the case will be easily solved. It's not a case that cannot be solved. But why are they making us suffer so much?"

'RE-OPENING HER GRAVE WILL BE DIFFICULT, BUT UNCERTAINTY IS MORE DIFFICULT'

Stating that the exhumation process would be difficult for them, father Kabaiş said, "Even if not two years, but 50 years pass, I will still not give up on this case. Even if it costs me my life, I will continue my struggle. Because I constantly receive threatening messages. Those who send them think, 'If we send threatening messages, maybe he will give up,' but I will absolutely not give up. My family, my children, and I are in a difficult situation. It is clear that this is a murder. If DNA from two men has been detected, how can this be suicide? Activities are being carried out in both directions, but this is a murder. Re-opening her grave will, of course, be difficult, but uncertainty is more difficult. If the cause of death is unknown, that is harder. They constantly claim it was 'drowning.' The expert opinion is also along these lines. We are forced, if it comes to the last resort, to open the grave. We brought this up with the lawyer. We still don't know what happened to Rojin. Male DNA has been detected. There is no water in her lungs. These are major pieces of evidence, proof. I also told the Chief Public Prosecutor, I pleaded with him. I said, 'Enough is enough, please finalize this file.' We asked them to explain. It is officially written in the file that there was no water in her lungs. The lawyers shared that with us. But some officials, local officials in Van, the officials there, do not want this. They do not want this incident to be solved. Especially the management of Van University, the rector, and the directors there, the head of security. Because they have major negligence. They abused their duty. They informed us 17 hours later."
