TURKISH Grand National Assembly (TBMM) Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş School Incidents and Digital Risks Investigation Commission convened.

The GNAT Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş School Incidents and Digital Risks Investigation Commission convened under the chairmanship of AK Party Tokat Deputy Yusuf Beyazıt. Speaking at the opening of the commission meeting, Beyazıt stated that July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day is not just a commemoration day and said, "July 15 is one of the strongest symbols of transferring the national will, commitment to democracy, and the spirit of unity and solidarity from generation to generation. On this occasion, I commemorate our heroic martyrs who protected the national will and democracy by disregarding their lives in the treacherous coup attempt of July 15, and I express my gratitude to our veterans."

Stating that the commission's field of activity is a strategic issue that directly concerns family structure, education system, child safety and digital sovereignty, Beyazıt said that digital platforms are no longer structures that only provide content, but have turned into global systems that shape user behavior and influence preferences. Pointing out that children in developmental age are especially affected by digital platforms, Beyazıt said, "The issue is not just the time spent looking at the screen. It is how the invisible algorithmic systems work that shape the child's attention, time, world of thought and development."

'2 LONG BARRELED GUNS, 150 RIFLES, 46 PISTOLS WERE SEIZED'

Making the first presentation to the commission, Police Department Public Order Department Head Tarıkhan Çetiner said, "Between 2021 and 2026, in-service training was given to 19 thousand 717 personnel working in children's units on issues such as child sexual abuse, child police basic training, children's legislation, communication techniques with children, crime prevention and protection of children from crime, etc. The 'Cooperation Protocol for Increasing Protective and Preventive Services and Measures Regarding the Safety of Children's Educational Processes' prepared within the scope of the 'Protective and Preventive Services and Measures for the Safety of Children's Educational Processes' was signed and put into effect on June 20, 2022. The aim of the protocol is to prevent children and young people from being dragged into crime, to keep them away from all kinds of crimes, and to ensure that students continue their education and training in a safer environment. In the 2025-2026 academic year, 951 school law enforcement officers worked permanently in 1134 schools, and 20 thousand 15 safe school coordination officers worked in constant communication with school administrations in 21 thousand 103 schools. "During the operations carried out due to the events that took place in Şanlıurfa Siverek and Kahramanmaraş Onikişubat districts on April 15, 2026, 2 long-barreled weapons, 150 rifles, 46 pistols, 77 blank firing guns, 46 toy guns and rifles, 996 mobile phones, 221 cutting-piercing tools, 7 thousand 16 cartridges and many computers and digital materials were seized." he said.

'10 MILLION 283 THOUSAND 839 STUDENTS WERE REACHED'

Gendarmerie General Command's Public Order Department Head, Brigadier General Murat Evren, explained the activities carried out for the protection of children. Brigadier General Evren said that between 2021 and 2026, in-service training was given to 9,650 personnel working in children's units on topics such as the Child Protection Law, methods of protecting children from crime, communication techniques and interview procedures with children, child surrender and prevention of child abuse and neglect. Evren said, "Within the scope of the Education and Security Project, in cooperation with the Ministry of Family and Social Services, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of National Education and the Union of Municipalities of Turkey (TBB), the 'Cooperation Protocol for Increasing Protective and Preventive Services and Measures Regarding the Safety of Children's Educational Processes', which was prepared with the aim of raising our children as healthy individuals who have received qualified education in physical, mental, emotional, social and moral aspects, by developing holistic strategies for the problems experienced in the field of education security, was signed and put into effect on June 20, 2022. Within the scope of the protocol, safe education coordination officers regularly meet with school administrations in periods determined according to the priority status of the schools, and the reported problems are followed by our gendarmerie units and solutions are provided. A total of 148 thousand 438 school observation forms were prepared for school interviews in the 2025-2026 Education Period. "He is assigned as a Coordination Officer. Students are informed about crime prevention methods, 'Personal Security' and 'Traffic Safety' etc. and what they should do in case of a crime. In this context, 74 thousand 607 information activities have been organized and 10 million 283 thousand 839 students have been reached in the last 5 years."

Then, the participants answered the questions of the MPs. Answering a deputy's question about radicalization, Deputy Chief of Police Mahmut Çorumlu said, "In Türkiye, the best police reported that FETO was radicalized. The best police warned. We saw and said that it was radicalized. And as a result, we are talking about not only FETO members, but also other groups. The police and gendarmerie follow them as well. We follow even the possibilities of extremism and radicalization, which we think may pose a serious threat to the state."
