US President Donald Trump made a statement about the Strait of Hormuz. Trump said, "The Strait of Hormuz is open and will remain open with or without Iran." Announcing that the USA would re-initiate a blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said, "We are reinstating the practice that only prevents Iranian ships or Iran's customers from entering and exiting the Strait. This practice will therefore be called the 'Iran Blockade'. All other countries will continue to use the Strait of Hormuz freely and fairly."
Stating that the USA will charge a fee for passage through the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said, "From today onwards, the USA will be known as the 'Protector of the Strait of Hormuz'. However, as a requirement of this duty and in line with the principle of justice, a payment of 20 percent will be collected from all cargo carried through the Strait in order to cover all expenses incurred for security and safety in this extremely sensitive region of the world. The implementation of this practice and the necessary structuring will begin immediately." -WASHINGTON
