The Ukrainian parliament approved the free trade agreement (FTA) signed with Türkiye on July 14.
The agreement was signed in Kiev on February 3, 2022, when President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited Ukraine.
It was later approved by Türkiye in October 2024, and it was announced that it would enter into force after the completion of the internal approval processes of both parties.
Trade Minister Ömer Bolat said in his social media post after Ukraine's approval of the FTA, "Another historical threshold has been crossed in the Türkiye-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement."
Minister of Commerce said, "The doors of a new era have been opened in the economic and commercial cooperation between Türkiye and Ukraine."
Bolat noted that thanks to the agreement, approximately 90% of bilateral trade will be mutually liberalized and said, "The competitiveness of our exporters in the Ukrainian market will be strengthened."
The trade minister said that with the agreement, the two countries are one step closer to the 10 billion dollar trade target set by the leaders.
The trade volume of Türkiye and Ukraine was approximately 6.6 billion dollars in 2025.
The following statements are included in the information note on the website of the Ministry of Commerce regarding the agreement:
"Within the scope of the FTA, the customs duty burden on our exports will be largely eliminated, with some of the customs duties imposed by Ukraine upon the entry into force of the agreement and the other significant part at the end of a transition period.
"In addition, our country has largely liberalized a significant part of agricultural and industrial products originating from Ukraine."
After the FTA was approved in the Ukrainian parliament, it was announced that Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan would go to Ukraine.
Fidan attended the Ukrainian Volunteer Coalition summit held in Paris on July 13, representing President Erdoğan.
In addition to Fidan, European Commission President Ursula von de Leyen and some European politicians will also visit Kiev.
The high-level visits take place on the occasion of Ukraine's "Statehood Day" celebrated on July 15 and the Ukraine-Southeast Europe Summit held in Kiev.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs is expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodomir Zelensky and other senior officials during his two-day trip to Ukraine.
