WASHINGTON, July 16 (Xinhua) -- US President Donald Trump said that Iran allowed a US citizen detained in December 2024 to leave the country.
In his statement on the social media platform Truth Social on Wednesday, Trump said, "Our citizen is currently outside Iran. He is safe and in good condition. We appreciate this sign of goodwill from Iran."
It was stated that the name of the US citizen detained in Iran was Dena Karari. Karari's lawyer, Jared Genser, announced that his client, who has been held in Iran since December 2024 on false charges, is safe and is on his way to return to the USA.
