In line with meteorological data and risk analyses, the Ministry placed 15 cities under "red alert", including the capital Rome, Bologna, Brescia, Cagliari, Campobasso, Florence, Frosinone, Genoa, Latina, Palermo, Perugia, Pescara, Rieti, Turin and Viterbo, on Thursday, July 16, when temperatures will rise even more.
While the Ministry of Health reiterated a series of warnings and precautionary recommendations for sun protection on its website, it recommended that especially the elderly, children and patients should not be outside between 11.00 and 18.00, which are the hottest hours of the day.
Meanwhile, extreme heat negatively affected daily life in Florence, which has been one of the cities that have been on a continuous "red alert" since July 8.
